Accelerated Reading
Could we please ask that your child completes their Accelerated Reader Star test by Wednesday 10th February. The instructions of how to do this was included in your last pack. If you are having any problems, please let us know ASAP. Our school pays a huge amount of money for this programme and the data collected is used to plan and improve on areas of Literacy in which your child may need more attention. We want our pupils to thrive in all areas of their learning and reading and understanding of text plays a vital role in this achievement.
It is also important that your child is encouraged to read and take quizzes at home. We appreciate it is more difficult to motivate the children at home but reading is so important and we do not want the children to fall behind by neglecting this area during their time absent from school. They should set aside at least 20 minutes per day if possible for reading. Most of their reading books sent home are included in the AR system so please remember to take a quiz on those also. Reading is also good for relaxation and mental health issues which too is vitally important at this challenging time.
Also a point to note when completing the test. There are approximately 37 questions. Some of these are intended to be difficult and above your child’s level, this is how the system determines the data and level for your child. Therefore, if your child finds some questions too difficult do not let this be off putting. You just have to wait until the clock flashes at the top of the question and it will move onto the next question.
Thank you for your support.
