Friday Assembly with Mrs Speers

10th Nov 2023

Our assembly was all about remembering. The children  played a memory game at the beginning and then discussed what we do to help us remember things and how it’s important to remember special events as this shows we care.

The children then watched a short clip about George who had been bombed as a little boy when working in his cabbage field.  The children then discussed this time of year and what we need to remember and why.

Beth (Student Council) then introduced Articles 22 and 38 from the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child which talked about war, refugee children and how children should be protected.  Matthew (Student Council) then read a poem about the importance of remembering the great bravery and resourcefulness of those who have served and continuing to service in the armed forces and those who have fought in wars.

This was followed by a period of silence.  We then looked at pictures of poppies and talked about how we wear our poppy as a symbol to help us remember today.

We compared this to the old testament when God told people to build a mound of stones to remember significant events.  The children then enjoyed singing along to the song don’t forget to remember by Ellie Holcomb  which reminds us of God’s love for us all.  We discussed how God has a great memory and knows everything about us even the number of hairs on our heads.

Children were reminded that the bible tells us not to forget the things that God has done for us.  God’s love is for everyone and he wants us to love other people too.  We concluded our assembly by singing the song ‘ let’s work for peace’ and then Annabel, Jessica, Rosie and Oscar closed in prayer.
