Farewell to Mr Cheevers 😢

22nd Mar 2024

Today was a very sad day for our school community as we gathered together to give Mr Cheevers a well deserved celebratory send off! It was lovely to see a great representative of our school community which included parents, PTA members, board of governors, staff and pupils. P6 & P7 had prepared a funny video of Mr Cheevers’ renowned cheesy dad jokes, which he will be missed for (no not really … sssh don’t tell him)! This was followed by an action poem by P1 and P2 entitled ‘Goodbye Mr Cheevers’. Lois Kane (chair of PTA) gave a lovely speech, (which highlighted his fondness of spending money) and presentation on behalf of the PTA which was followed by our Board of Governors representative Keith Quigley. Keith gave an endearing speech thanking Mr Cheevers for his hard work and commitment to our school followed by a personally written, humorous poem.  Finally Rev Rosie Diffin spoke on behalf of our chair of governors Mr B Montgomery who is currently unwell in hospital. Mr Montgomery had personally written a letter from his bedside to be read out. There were definitely a few sniffles and tissues being passed about! Mr Cheevers then addressed everyone and acknowledged his thanks for all the support he’d been given and for the gifts from the school community. He was blown away by the generosity shown to him and had to be reminded by his darling wife to ‘man up’! To conclude praise was given through song. After Mr Cheevers said his goodbyes to the children and families, staff and governors enjoyed an intimate lunch. He will be hugely missed in our school community and we wish him every success and happiness in his new post! Remember when you’re passing by don’t forget to drop in, you’ll always be warmly welcomed in Tobermore Primary School (just no jokes)! 😉
