International Day of Women and Girls in Science
Today in Tobermore Primary School we celebrated, ‘International Day of Women and Girls in Science’. This is an annual observance that celebrates the achievements and contributions of women and girls in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Six women from Graham Group, a company that specialises in the delivery of award winning construction and civil engineering, came into school to deliver workshops and talk to the children about their jobs. The children had to be STEM detectives and guess what area they specialised in. It was extremely enjoyable and the children were actively engaged in the activities they had planned for them. It was great to see the children being inspired and setting future career goals for themselves. Huge thanks to these inspirational women who gave up their time to come visit our wee school today, Susannah Morwood (Group Head of Marketing and Communications), Eva Armstrong (Civil Engineering & Quality), Aine McCaffrey (Civil Engineering Apprentice), Helena Gaffney (Project Coordinator), Rachel Woodward (Site/Civil Engineer) and Attracta Matthews (Social Impact Business Manager). Here’s to the next generation in STEM!
