International World Mental Health Day

10th Oct 2023

Today we thought about International Mental Health Day. As a Rights Respecting School we examined the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and discussed which articles related most to mental health and well being.

We focused on article 6.

Article 6 of the UNCRC recognises that all children and young people have the right to survive and the right to develop.

A right to develop

This Article also says that children and young people should be able to grow up in conditions that don’t impact negatively on their physical and mental wellbeing.

P1 children worked in groups with their buddies to think of all the things they need in order to grow and develop healthily to reach their full potential. They had great fun drawing round their bodies and working together. The children in P2 worked with P6 to think of things adults (rights bearers) need to do to ensure these needs are met. They had to draw around an adult’s body (check out our photos)!  The children also discussed how we as a school meet these needs and if there are any other things we could do to facilitate their development. We were all very impressed with their thoughts and ideas.
P1 & P2 then got to spend some time at the park playing together, having fun and enjoying the autumn sunshine! 😀☀️
