NI Assembly talk @ Straw PS through PEACE IV
Today P5-7 pupils visited Straw PS to learn about the NI Assembly. A lady came from Stormont to teach the children how the assembly works and how the MLAs have been voted for. She also told them about the different laws which the assembly have made and passed which affect us all.
The pupils had their own mini election were four parties read out why we should vote for them. The rest of the pupils had to fill in a ballot slip ranking the four parties from 1 to 4. A special mention to Reece and Shania for being party leaders and reading out their party's agenda. Very impressive in front of two classes and in a different school.
The winner today was the "Pet Party" with 13 1st votes. The children then had a debate to see if they should wear school uniforms or not. We also had a speaker of the house who invited people to speak for our against the motion.
The pupils really enjoyed the election and meeting the other pupils from Straw PS. We are now looking forward to having our school elections to select our new school councillors for this school year and Eco councillors.
