PEACE IV Shared Education Trip to Brookfield Wind Farm
The children of P5-7 were given a real treat. They got to visit a real wind farm! The wind farm is only 20 minutes from Tobermore and consists of 6 very large turbines. The site operated by Brookfield Renewable, is located on very high ground where they know there will be lots of wind.
The turbines were over 125 feet tall and each blade of the turbine weighs the same as 11 family cars. The children were given an opportunity to explore the inside of one of the large turbines and also have a go at creating their own electricity using a bicycle.
Everyone had a great time and could not believe the size and the scale of the wind farm up close. We thank Shania and Matthew for their super thank you on our behalf. Each child was given a goodie bag and the staff as well!
This trip is a follow up to the STEM energy programme we ran in co operation with Straw Primary School last year.
