World Book Day Assembly

8th Mar 2024

Today’s assembly focused on World Book Day and how in the UK we may take books for granted as we have so many of them. Some children shared their favourite books saying why they particularly liked them. The children then learned about Mina, a girl living in Afghanistan, and other children living in parts of our world where they have not been able to get books and even an education due to war and natural disasters. The children were shocked to learn that Mina had to go to school in secret and her school looked very different from theirs. We looked at images of children in refugee camps, where the struggle to be educated is even harder, and how they rely on agencies like UNICEF for their basic needs. We thought about our school and how fortunate we are with all the books we have. Then we looked at the best book of all, the Bible! Children were reminded that God is the author of the best book of all!
