In P6/7, our topic is World War 2. We were so excited to welcome Sean from ‘Holding History’ into our classroom to help this topic come to life. We had the opportunity to see real ration cards, army uniforms, war-time cook books and weaponry. We also participated in air raid drills, foot drills and tossed explosives as soldiers would have done during the war.
Wearing army uniforms and carrying their equipment made us realise how hard it would have been to be a soldier, as the kit was very heavy. We learned about the challenges of being a child in the war too, rationing and becoming an evacuee.
Having the chance to learn all about our topic in a ‘hands on’ way was a fantastic experience, reminding us of the realities of what war was like. Thank you so much Sean, we had a great day!
