Share the Walk Initiative - Shared Education

25th Feb 2021

Tobermore Primary School and St Columba's Primary School have been involved in a Shared Education partnership for the past number of years. Throughout this time, both schools have benefitted from shared experiences which have enriched both pupils and staff in these schools. The schools have gained vital resources and had the pleasure of working with wonderful facilitators to enhance our pupils learning experiences.

As part of our Shared Education project this year, along with the wonderful activities that we have planned for Term 3, we are working together on a 'Share the Walk' initiative.

The idea is that pupils, staff and indeed parents will complete a number of tasks based on walking, cycling and scooting for the few next weeks. The children will record their results and post them to their teachers and these results will accumulate into hours, which are needed to complete our Shared Education Programme.

This will begin on the 1st March and will end on the 26th March. All the documents needed can be downloaded below.

This is not a competition and all we ask is that the children get out and about and record distances that are travelled by walking, bicycle or scooter.

In Tobermore Primary School, we will be adding all the distances of the children in Year 1 and Year 2 (Foundation), Year 3 and Year 4 (Key Stage 1) and Year 5 to Year 7 (Key Stage 2) to see how many times they have completed the activity or to see how close they were to complete the activity.

E.g.

If Foundation completed a total of 85 miles as a class for Task 1, they would have travelled to St Columba's 17 times.

If Key Stage 1 completed 100 miles for Task 3, they wouldn't have made it to Dublin, but were very close.

Here are the tasks:-

Task 1: - How many times can your Key Stage travel to your partner school?

Task 2: - How many times can your Key Stage travel to Belfast?

Task 3: - How many times or how far can your Key Stage travel to Dublin?

Task 4: - How many times or how far can your Key Stage travel the Causeway Coastal Route?
